Downsize Washington #7
In 1992 presidential race Ross Perot stated he would hold hands with House and Senate leaders to address a $4 Trillion national debt. Now over $30 Trillion, not a word.
Decades ago on a flight to Lexington, KY, I happened upon Senator Mitch McConnell. He still had his make-up on from his Sunday television appearance.
Other than stating he supported the Balanced Budget Amendment, he wanted to get back to reading his Wall Street Journal.
Since then the national debt has grown to $30 Trillion, but McConnell, Senate Republican Leader since 2006, does not talk about it. Nor do the Democrats. Nor the press.
What had been an issue during the 1992 presidential race, now - except for raising the debt ceiling again - no one talks about it. I don’t know why.
