Why are the U.S. Treasury Bonds in the Social Security Trust Fund counted only as assets and not liabilities for future generations?
In the end U.S. Treasury Bonds may be assets for the Social Security Trust Fund, which now has a balance of around $3 Trillion, but these bonds are also debt to be paid by future taxpayers. One way to lower these future liabilities is to raise the retirement age to 70 or higher.
