Why would a new Republican majority in the House after the November, 2022, elections automatically lead to successful investigations?

You may miss your favorite soft drinks. DIY home improvements will become difficult.

No Netflix, but perhaps you could find some other streaming service. If you have electricity.

To the extent that shareholders in these companies are foreigners, even better. America First.

Of course, no MacBook Pro’s or iPhones, no Microsoft Office, no Google Search, no Amazon Prime, no Tesla electric cars, no Facebook. But your Visa credit card debt would be canceled.

Don’t let Nancy Pelosi know. She and her husband would “short” all the stocks and make a mint.

There would be thousands instantly unemployed, solving the Federal Reserve’s inflation challenge.

And no more concern about the stranglehold on information Big Tech monopolies now enjoy. Big Tech would be canceled. For a good cause.

Other than stating he supported the Balanced Budget Amendment, he wanted to get back to reading his Wall Street Journal.

Since then the national debt has grown to $30 Trillion, but McConnell, Senate Republican Leader since 2006, does not talk about it. Nor do the Democrats. Nor the press.

What had been an issue during the 1992 presidential race, now - except for raising the debt ceiling again - no one talks about it. I don’t know why.

How does Putin recover from Ukraine exposing to the world his country’s rot, incompetence, corruption and decadence. It will take decades - if ever - for Russia to rebuild any semblance of its imperial glory. Russia is spent.

Questions:

How long will Putin last? He may last a while longer, but his project to reconstruct the Soviet Union is gone.

Will Russia transition to democratic rule or back to another autocratic leader? Probably the latter.

Will Navalny be released and become president, and is he a democrat? Maybe and maybe. It would be a welcomed change.

Who are the National Republican Army who claim they bombed the car of a Putin advisor (and killed his daughter, another advisor, instead)? This National Republican Army may or may not exist.

Is NATO’s mission in Europe accomplished and will it focus on containing China? NATO may no longer contribute to U.S. security, but don’t expect a drawdown. Especially since new members were just added.

Consider if the U.S. went on offense through a New Monroe Doctrine to topple the Cuban regime - not by force - but by a sustained, coordinated media campaign to expose the misery it has wreaked on this continent over the last six decades. When Cuba falls, Nicaragua and Venezuela will soon follow. The U.S. could roll back the Sao Paulo Forum agenda. Russia and China lose.

A daily briefing at U.S. State Department; Twitter, Parler, Truth Social, Instagram, Facebook and other campaigns; the Voice of America and Radio Martí; a crescendo of information - a tidal wave of truth - to overwhelm the dictators until they flee to live amongst their many benefactors in Europe.

The U.S. free press could recoup some of its reputation by supporting this media campaign aimed at regimes who jail journalists for telling the truth.

Elon Musk, through his Starlink company, has provided broadband internet to Ukraine. He surely would assist Cuba regain its liberty by facilitating communications amongst opposition groups on the island. Apple, Google, Meta Platforms and more companies should be able to join this effort. If they shy away so as not to offend China - if their profits are more important than freedom, democracy and human rights - then it will be well noted.

For freedom, the rule of law, democracy, and anti-corruption, the U.S. must go on offense.

After his brinkmanship, Khrushchev did remove Soviet nuclear missiles from Cuba. In exchange Kennedy removed U.S. missiles from Turkey and promised the U.S. would never again invade Cuba.

But Kennedy made that promise almost 60 years ago to a country, the Soviet Union, that dissolved over 30 years ago. Now it is Putin’s Russia and Xi’s China that have joined forces to destabilize democracies, undermine rule of law, and seed corruption wherever possible in the Americas and elsewhere.

Consider whether the U.S. should - at this moment of Putin’s brinkmanship in Ukraine and Xi’s in Hong Kong - retool the Monroe Doctrine to expose both Russian and Chinese activities in Latin America. Call it the Biden Doctrine, if you like. Not an invasion, but a focused social media campaign - hopefully echoed by the West’s free press, such as it is - to hammer both countries for the misery they have abetted in Cuba, and also Nicaragua and Venezuela.

This Biden Doctrine could generally attack how Russia and China have successfully captured post-WWII international institutions. Both exercise freedom of speech at the United Nations, can vote, and even wield veto power on the UN Security Council. But both should rather be happy with observer status at the UN - and all other international institutions - until they grant these rights to their own people.

Consider if the now 50 states should proportionally divide and assume the assets and liabilities of the federal government’s Social Security program, including its Trust Fund.

Washington has limited investment of the now almost $3 Trillion Social Security Trust Fund to U.S. Treasury bills or bonds. If invested on Wall Street, it was rightfully feared, the Fund would wield too much power over the stock market. If, however, the 50 states could manage 50 separate Trust Funds, that fear disappears. The 50 states could treat these 50 Trust Funds as Norway does its sovereign wealth fund, freely investing them in the real economy, both here and abroad, and earning higher returns for their residents.

During a transition, the 50 states would collect the 6.2% FICA tax from each worker, and the corresponding 6.2% employer’s contribution, and begin to invest the funds to maximize growth at a pre-established risk tolerance. Washington would continue to pay benefits by drawing down the Trust Fund balance.

Consider if Washington at the same time raises the retirement age and curbs exaggerated cost of living adjustments (COLAs).

With 50 state trust/sovereign wealth funds invested in the real economy, a higher retirement age, and adjusted COLAS, Social Security will stand on firmer ground for future generations.

To further reduce any unfunded liabilities, many Americans who have their retirements otherwise secured may wish to trade their Social Security claim for an Oval Office meeting with the President or other unforgettable experience.

In the end U.S. Treasury Bonds may be assets for the Social Security Trust Fund, which now has a balance of around $3 Trillion, but these bonds are also debt to be paid by future taxpayers. One way to lower these future liabilities is to raise the retirement age to 70 or higher.

Abraham Lincoln created the Department of Agriculture in 1862. Is it still necessary? If so, shall we move it out of Washington to Nebraska or Iowa? What percentage of the U.S. population now farms? If eliminated, the savings can reduce federal deficits and national debt.

Downsize Washington #1. Education is a local government responsibility. Eliminate the Federal Department of Education - created during the Carter Administration - and dedicate the savings to lowering the federal deficits and debt.
